10 Holiday Tips

  1. Presence – be where you are, in the moment, without harping on the past or worrying about the future.
  2. Communication – listen intently, use non-verbals without mentally planning responses or interrupting. Speak authentically and intentionally.
  3. Phones – to help you focus on those you are with, leave your phone in your coat or purse at the door.
  4. Eating – the food will be good, so actually taste it! Smell it. Socialize around the table and savor bite after bite.
  5. Responding vs Reacting – if things become noisy and opinionated, remember that silence is golden. Ask a question rather than arguing if a debate arises.
  6. Worrying – boarding a flight? Seeing your in-laws? Deep breathing regrounds us, imagine the best case scenario to ease an anxious mind.
  7. Busyness – Replace “I’m too busy to ____” with “it’s not a priority for me to ____”. This helps us do what really needs to be done. Delegate. Say “yes” to things mindfully (you’re allowed to say “no”).
  8. Sleep – use a body scan or mindful breathing to sleep sounder.
  9. Self Care – meditate, take a walk, read a book. In the season of giving (and the season of stress), don’t forget about yourself! Take time to fill your own bucket.
  10. Breathe – stop occasionally for a mindful breath. Feel it completely fill your lungs and release any mental or physical tension as you exhale.

It’s a short month for us! Make sure you get in as many sessions as you can through December 20. MeditationWorks will be closing up shop for the end of the year beginning December 21 and will be back on our regular schedule on January 2. Definitely don’t miss the week of December 17…who knows…we might just have something special planned for you.
